Well, where do I start?! Sorry for the cliche, but I really thought you were already an admin, especially based on your involvement with WP:UW, about which I believe you posted a message to me. The opposition on your RfA seemed to come from low wiki-space and mainspace (major) edits - the latter probably just because you have the minor checkbox checked a lot (as you explained there). Of course, I'm really happy to help you with anything - just ask any questions - I'll try to answer them quickly and then do something more imaginative near Christmas :) Martinp23 20:32, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- On the minor edit's I dechecked the box and now only use it now for spelling and the such. I s'pose in that regards Radiant was correct, I used to only use it for edits of importance, but that was my interpretation.
- Here are a sample of AfD's I've commented on. I don't really believe in only Keep or Delete comments and usually try to add something to it for the closing editor.
- 1 , 2 , 3 , Alot of shenanigans here 4 , 5 , 6 , 7, anyway you'll get the idea. However I've never closed an AfD out and am unsure if that's the domain of admins only. On RfA's, I've never opposed anyone as usually it's just vote piling which I disagre with, so I only vote on editors I know and support. One of the areas I am interested in is WP:PAIN I've been involved and sorted a few disputes out and wouldn't mind getting stuck in a bit there. My main work is WP:UW which you've already seen, it's coming on nicely and have recently got quite a few more editors on board. But I can see that finishing in the next month or so, where I'll have to find something else to meddle with. I'm thinking of taking on all templates next, but have to look into it further. Anyway thas all for now folks, and don't put yourself out too much worrying about my coaching at the mo, we all have enough on our plates with chrimbo coming up. - Well, I'm hugely impressed with your editing manner, and your ability to deal with "difficult customers" ([1]), something truly commendable. On the subject of AfDs - non admins can close any (very clear) debate which doesn't require admin intervention (so you could close keeps, merges, redirects). It's best to stick to just closing unanimous decisions as a non admin, or ones which are very clear, and if you're considering doing this, you may want to look at deletion process and deletion guidelines for admins. For things to do, you may want to look at WP:RM and the unglamourous, rarely satisfying work at WP:AFC (where I racked up some 150 WP space edits in two days). I don't know how much non-XfD closing experience you've had, but WP:TFD, WP:CFD and WP:RFD are often in need of further opinions (I've noticed at TfD, where I do a lot of closes, we don't get many !votes for a lot of debates, and then one or two a week get loads of popularity (like {{myspace}}). That's enough of my suggestions - do you have any questions to grill me with? Martinp23 17:22, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Had a look round at them all and I think I'll start having a go at closing out on the WP:TFD as that seems to be my main area, for the moment. I might also have a go at WP:AFC just to get my main space edits up. I'll give you a shout in a week or so, or if you have any other ideas let me know. - OK I screwed up I didn't read the process or your words above properly, and put 4 AfD's forward for delete, same as I did with the TfD's yesterday and messed up in about 3 different ways. Couple of admins jumped on it quite quickly. So all in all not a good start think I'll give them a body swerve for a little while, and just stick with my templates. - Now I can't get any hassle about my minor/major edits n summaries ;)
- As I said on IRC the other day I think I'll stay away from the XfD for now, as it's a bit of a scrabble among the non admins to close those handful of AfD's for example the are clear keeps. And with the majority being deletes to look through and to get one closed before someone jumps in behind it's a lot of work to get little done. Also because it's rush rush rush, I think errors can creep in like the keep I did the other week. Anyway thas all for now folks. Khukri (talk . contribs) 10:20, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
