Mark Tozer Sea Kayak Coach
Born March 23, 1970
Height 1.80 m
Weight 75 kg

Mark Tozer has spent his entire life involved with the outdoors. At an early age he was introduced to rock climbing amongst the Peak District outcrops and a school trip to North Wales in 1983 began his passion for mountaineering. Since then the outdoors has become an integral part of Mark’s career as well as his first love on a day off. These days he equally enjoys the various aspects of paddle sports along with being in the mountains, either on foot or on skis.

Through work and play Mark has been fortunate enough to have applied his skills as a practitioner in outdoor learning throughout the UK, Europe, America and New Zealand. In addition to this Mark has enjoyed expeditions to Norway, Ecuador, Iceland, Baja, Greenland, Kenya, Tanzania and Morocco. Over the years he has steadily gained senior instructional awards in mountaineering and kayaking as well as gaining qualified teacher status.

Mark is undertaking research in partnership with the School of Education at the University of Wales, Bangor that examines adaptive expertise within leadership and how this impacts on the learning cycle. A particular focus is that of overseas expedition leadership and the processes of recruitment, selection and continued training. This area has received recognition from the Expedition Advisory Centre, R.G.S and the Expeditions Providers Association. The funding for this project has been made possible as a result of support from the European Social Fund and a paid position made available by Outlook Expeditions.

Mark can be found either guiding in the Snowdonia Mountains, coaching others in the fine art of sea kayaking or providing technical advice and training to centres and aspiring instructors. As long as Mark is in the outdoors coaching, exploring and learning then there is nowhere else he would rather be.
