[edit] Mario Kart DS Beginner Tips

 These beginner tips are basically the actual

controls. Hold down A to accelerate, hold down B to brake and reverse, Press L or X to use items, Use Y or press the touch screen to change the map view, and hold down R to drift.

[edit] Mario Kart DS Intermediate Tips

 You can get a mini-turbo boost by drifting, by

holding down R, then rocking left to right until you see orange sparks. When you see orange sparks, wait until you finish the corner and then let go of R, and WHOOSH! You go faster! Plus, when you get an item box, instead of waiting for your item to come, repeatedly press X or L, and your item comes quicker.

 Snaking, a good tactic, is only for the best of

racers. To snake, you simply repeatedly power-boost. On a straight, you power-boost like you would on a corner from the left, then do it again on the right, Like so...

Boost left,,,

Boost right,,,

Boost left,,,

And continue this on the straight. If you're on a corner, you just repeatedly boost, like so...

Boost,,,

Boost,,,

Boost,,,

And so on.

[edit] Some other helpful Mario Kart DS shortcuts

 On DK Pass, on the second huge lump of snow, drive over

it, and you either get a Star, Triple Mushroom, Mushroom, or Red Shell. It's useful. And on Bowser Castle, on the spinning circle, instead of rather going through the first passage, go all the way round and go through the second passage, a red carpet with a moving Whomp/Thwomp on it.
