"The Armenian Genocide" exhibit on 6/8-6/30 KC MO artist Mher Khachatryan

                      "NEVER FORGET"

Mher Khachatryan paints with black & blue & stark red to rip open old wounds that haunt his country's past. The Kansas City artist was born in Armenia 1983 & started painting when he was 5.After seven years in art school ,he came to United States in 2003 to expand his creative horizons.Armenia's history still drives his work, though ,& his latest exhibit, opening today at Vulcan's Forge(3936 Broadway 816 913 6303), is inspired by the 1915 slaughter by turks of two-thirds of Armenia's population. The organized campaign of ethnic cleansing remains an uncomfortable topic on the international stage; only 21 countries officially recognize it as genocide. The United States isn't among them.Khachatryan hops to give local residents a sense of his country's enduring loss with his nightmarish paintings of severed heads & trees draped with dead bodies. For a preview of Khachatryan's work see http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y102/mher/art/?start=all -Carolyn Szczepanski The Pitch
