[edit] Proposed Traveston Dam
The section regarding the proposed Traveston Dam is biased. There are many in the area who would disagree with many of the statements in this section.
How is Mikhail Gorbachev qualified to advise Queensland residents about the construction of dams in Australia?
I have changed the sentence:
"Local residents oppose the dam proposal on a variety of grounds..." to:
"Some local residents oppose the dam proposal on a variety of grounds..."

- The article does offer a bias point of view worthy of concern, focusing on the argument against the creation of the dam. However, it does provide good insight into the overwhealming sentiment of the local people affected. I can assure you few locals are in favour.

- I have taken the old reference to Gorbachev out of the article - it adds little. Many of the references in this article appear quite dated. I will try to update the page with better and more recent references sometime soon. = Steve Burgess.
[edit] There is plenty of evidence of strong local opposition to the proposed dam
I included some documented evidence of strong local opposition to the dam in response to Peter's concerns about bias.
I don't know who put the Gorbachov comment into the article, and I agree that it is a very general statement and therefore adds little to an article specifically on the Mary River. However, I am aware of the context, and I feel that it is defendable within the context. The statement was made in direct response to questioning about the Traveston Crossing Dam when Gorbachov was sharing the floor of an international public forum with the Queensland Premier - so it does have a specific contextual relevance. Green Cross International is an international organization with a specific charter to alleviate conflicts over water infrastructure and thus it's Chairman is well qualified to comment on the matter.
