[edit] Survey
WP:Good article usage is a survey of the language and style of Wikipedia editors in articles being reviewed for Good article nomination. It will help make the experience of writing Good Articles as non-threatening and satisfying as possible if all the participating editors would take a moment to answer a few questions for us, in this section please. The survey will end on April 30.
- Would you like any additional feedback on the writing style in this article?
- Of course; that's why I am nominating this for good article.
- If you write a lot outside of Wikipedia, what kind of writing do you do?
- I write for school projects and the like.
- Is your writing style influenced by any particular WikiProject or other group on Wikipedia?
- No, not really. My biggest influence is the sources, but I always try to rewrite so that it is not a copyright violation.
At any point during this review, let us know if we recommend any edits, including markup, punctuation and language, that you feel don't fit with your writing style. Thanks for your time. - Dan Dank55 (talk)(mistakes) 03:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] GA Review
Quite an interesting article, and what seems to be a very interesting life. I enjoyed reading it.
Lead:
- You may have an unintentional pun. "Aerial circles" reads rather humorous.
- Done. Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Why was her husband's book the second of its kind to be published? Rather, what kind of book was it? Please state it in the lead.

- Please link Kalamazoo, Michigan.

- Please explain how they had to get permission to photograph in South America. Did they have to ask wherever they went?
- No, several countries simply barred her from photographing for reasons stated in the article. Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

- Watch for redundancy. "In addition" and "In all" are understood in the context of the sentences.
- Huh? Please elaborate? Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Later life and philanthropy
- Please italicize The New York Times.

- This: It was part of a tradition stretching back to the 1920s in which noted explorers are asked to place their signature on the Globe, of which Meader was the 79th. is an awkward sentence. Please consider splitting it in two, and replacing "stretching" with "spanning".
- Done Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Death
- "Pre-deceased" is awkward. I suggest simply saying "a year after her husband's death".
- Done Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- If all that is to be included are these three sentences, it does not need its own section.
- Working on it Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
References:
- I am very troubled with such a heavy reliance on one source. I get nervous when I cite a source more than five times. I believe you should be able to replace many of these with newspaper accounts or magazine stories. Some may be more difficult to find, but you would be surprised what newspaper websites will allow you to do. Don't underestimate the capacity of your local library either. I would search major newspapers and magazines in Michigan, and National Geographic's website. I noticed the article is not part of WP:MICH. If you're not in Kalamazoo or Michigan, I would suggest asking these folks for assistance. With more sources, I hope you will be able to expand the section on her early life.
- Working on it. By far, the NYT article is more comprehensive, though I'm sure there's more sources. Editorofthewikireview my edits here! 20:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
You have seven days to take care of these issues. Please reply here or on my talk page if you need clarification. Thank you and good luck. --Moni3 (talk) 21:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] GA Review-#2
Well, this is a well-done article. Congratulations. I see a lot of improvment from last time.
However, it does need some work before becoming a GA. For instance, as mentioned before, this article needs more citations. So, I'm going to put the article on hold until due work is done. Thanks, ~Meldshal42 02:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

- There really were not that many references to be found. I added all that were of relevance, but most stuff was mirrors of the NYT article. I tried my local library, but there was nothing to be found. This is supposed to be a "good" article, not perfect, and I don't think there is enough for this to go past GA. Sorry, I tried. - Well, let me check out the resources. Then I'll move on. ~Meldshal42 20:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm just kinda watching this as the previous GA reviewer. But I really feel it's up to the nominator to do the research necessary to have the article pass. I offered to do some research and email Editor news stories, but he declined. Go to the library to see what you can find. It's available in a library near me. I just checked. --Moni3 (talk) 22:48, 3 June 2008 (UTC) Edit: Are you sure that's not a lion cub in the image? Unless she spent time in Asia, since there are no tigers in Africa. --Moni3 (talk) 22:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- Hm... I don't really know what it is. I thought it said tiger with the source I found, but I can't really find that now. I think I'll just blank the caption. And I'll look in another library near me to find it.
