Talk:Martian global warming/sandbox
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martian global warming is both a extraterrestrial scientific and terrestrial politico-sociological phenomen. Martian global warming as a scientific phenomenon is covered in the Climate of Mars page. The political and sociological phenomena of martian global warming is discussed here.
[edit] Background
Mars is undergoing some climate change. The evidence will come as it comes, eventually resolving the question of whether it is local or global and why it is happening. But far in advance of that evidence arriving, even far in advance of us having a prospect of definitively answering these questions, a number of figures have strongly laid out claims on whether or not Mars is undergoing global warming. Mars has become something of a secondary stalking horse in the terrestrial debate about global warming.
If Mars and Earth warm and cool in parallel, it is indicative that some significant non-terrestrial cause exists for terrestrial global warming. Any viable theory that suggests that current global warming is not entirely or principally anthropogenic significantly reduces the likelihood of drastic action to change economies in order to reduce the production of greenhouse gases.
The stakes are perceived as high by both sides. Economic interests, political power, and cultural norms all are influenced by the climate debate.
