According to http://www.thinkbabynames.com ...

The boy's name Marmaduke is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "follower of Saint Maedoc". The most famous of a number of saints named Maedoc was a sixth-century abbot of Clonmore in Ireland. The name has comical English upper-class connotations.

... which should be all the elucidation needed. -- Derek Ross | Talk 00:10, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
