[edit] redirect/renaming of article

Hi, I note that the article Markievicz Park was redirected here to Markiewicz Park, see this diff, but I really think it should have been done in the opposite direction.

According to the Official GAA Website - GAA.ie the Home Ground of County Sligo Football is Markievicz Park. I happen to know this is true from personal experience, as I saw the signage over the park gates every day (I was born and raised right beside the park). I'm on my way to get a photo of this sign before it gets dark, and I'll try and upload it to wikimedia commons as soon as I can, which should prove it, I hope. Any comment? --The.Q(t)(c) 16:47, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Even a rather unscientific Google test should be sufficient - "Markievicz Park" 4190 hits, "Markiewicz Park" 148 hits. One Night In Hackney303 16:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
The Official Sligo GAA site has it spelt Markievicz. BigDunc (talk) 17:01, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I was the editor who redirected "Markievicz Park" to "Markiewicz Park", because there were two similar articles under the difft spellings, and the main article is entitled "Constance Georgine, Countess Markiewicz" (i.e. with a W). I have no particular preference wrt spelling, just thought that there shouldn't be two articles on the same subject.
Checking around for spelllings of Constance's name, I notice that the [ Oireachtas members database] uses "Markievicz" (with a "V"), and that the Official Record of Daíl Eireann throws up 73 hits for Markievicz" with a "V", but none for "Markiewicz" with a "W".
In any case what matters is that the name of the article on the GAA grounds should use the spelling by which that is best known, so I will move the article to Markievicz Park. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Excuse my delay in getting back to this, busy off-wiki. I went to take a photo of the signage over the grounds on Friday evening last, and lo and behold, it's been removed, and evidently for quite some time. Just goes to show that the things you see everyday are the things you miss least when they're gone (or something, I don't even know what that means!) There is a planning application notice on the wall (I took a photo of that), which is signed on behalf of the Markievicz Park Development Committee. A moot point now as the move has taken place, but I'll try and put it on commons this evening. --The.Q(t)(c) 16:01, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
