it is released now in japan, i have it on order, so i'll change it when i have it to check things Romanista 09:36, 28 July 2006 (UTC) (wifi is def. out :( )

[edit] Characters

No chance of a source on all those characters? --Ragey 17:14, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

  • I looked at the existing sources, and could only find the following listed as confirmed: Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Wario, and Koopa Troopa. I removed all the other characters. It was getting pretty ridiculous, and I think some people were just adding random characters from the Mario universe -_- Cosmos 13:27, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Hmm, I was looking at the King Boo article and I saw that King Boo may be a Mario Basketball character. I think he should go in the unconfirmed characters list, if you agree. - Random Wikipedia visitor
  • Anybody have a source for that Final Fantasy thing? It sure sounds like vandalism. RememberMe? 05:44, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm for giving it a week to find a source before deleting it. That does sound like vandalism, and there still hasn't been a source added... --Eternal Trance 19:06, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
Alright, there's been enough time to find a source and add it. I'm taking out the bit about Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest characters till someone can prove it. --Trance 18:39, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/ab3j/character/character02.html Try the offical site for comfirmation on Final Fantasy characters. Pata Hikari 22:13, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Why is Geno listed?--GORE-ILLA 19:05, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
It's been removed, so I guess it was a mistake anyways. Probably just some Super Mario RPG fans vandalizing. --Trance 19:06, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Petey as a NPC

Petey Pirahana isn't really even a NPC. He's a goalnet. Could someone please change this? --leetdood

[edit] Release

September 11? What the Schmikeys?

Hey, at least that gives people time to save up for it, even though it is on 9/11.

That's rather poor taste if it is...Antisora 16:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Famitsu

The Famitsu article on Mario Basketball 3-on-3 has some specific focus on Mario, Bowser Jr., Daisy, and Wario. Special shots, maybe? - NES Boy

They all have special shots, can someone please put this in? I'm not sure where to put it in. Characters do special shots by tapping the touchscreen in specific shapes, most of the time it is the first letter of their name. For example, Mario's Fireball Shot requires you to tap out a double M. Specials are interruptable. -- leetdood

[edit] Wi-Fi?

There's no source on that Wi-Fi info, and I've been getting mixed messages when I actually looked for myself... So what's the deal?

There isn't any WFC. However, there are, uh.. hold on-- 5 games for DS Wi-Fi (Not WFC) play. Don't know if they're multi-cart or single-cart, don't understand japanese. -- leetdood

[edit] Confirmed, but not on the official site

People have attempted to remove the characters that have not yet appeared on the official site, so I'm hunting down proof that they're all in.

Toad
Birdo - Second image on Nintendo's main site. [1]
Dixie Kong - She appears in the official trailer. She makes a basket near the end. [2]
Koopa Paratroopa - See the picture that's already in the article right now. This one, specifically.
Fly Guy - Fourth image on Nintendo's main site. [3]
Boo - There's currently a link to an image that shows Boo as a playable character. [4]

Updates to come. --HeroicJay 04:29, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Huh... I can't find any Toad. --HeroicJay 04:55, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

here's a review that has toad confirmed. http://ds.ign.com/articles/713/713197p1.html --166.70.59.63 20:08, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

That's not an official source. --HeroicJay 20:38, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
And yet, it is verifiable and reliable. It should be assumed that they were not lying when they said that they could select Toad. - A Link to the Past (talk) 07:16, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps not deliberately lying, but mistaken. After all, I don't think 1-Up is deliberately lying when they say that it's confirmed that the Ice Climbers and Game & Watch have been removed from SSBB, but we're not putting them on the page either. Besides, I was recently provided with evidence - not proof, I admit, but let me finish the thought - that there are exactly 21 playable characters in the game, and there are 21 playable characters currently on the list without Toad. I am willing to wait until proof arrives before putting unverified info on the page. --HeroicJay 18:10, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
IGN witnessed Toad being playable with their own eyes, 1UP referenced a much smaller, unknown website. How can IGN's eyes be mistaken? - A Link to the Past (talk) 00:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Were you there when IGN's reps played the game? And if the answer to that is "no", then did you see a video of them playing the game? Do you believe that they wrote that article simultaneously as they were playing the game? It's not their eyes that I suspect may have been faulty; it's their memories. Unless you were there or you have evidence of what happened when they were there, I'm taking my evidence against Toad being playable as equal to IGN's article mentioning him being in. --HeroicJay 02:03, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
We have no reason to disbelieve them outside of anecdotal evidence. - A Link to the Past (talk) 04:58, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I won't deny that my evidence is anecdotal; what I deny is that IGN's evidence is not. They simply listed a few Mario characters who appear in most sports games offhandedly. I doubt the writer put much thought into it. If he'd gone into detail about Toad's special move, that'd be something, but all he did was just rattle off some common Mario characters. Toad has appeared in no screenshots and no videos in a playable position, and he is not yet on Nintendo's official Mario Hoops site (he appears in screenshots, but not on the court or in character lineups.) This IGN article is the only piece of evidence for Toad being in the game, and he's vaguely mentioned in the "usual Mario roster" sense. I'm not saying that Toad is DEFINITELY SURELY 100% NOT IN THE GAME, but this one article is not proof enough. --HeroicJay 05:07, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
That's not what he said, though. Even though Anoop is notorious for not researching information, all he had to do was view who was playable - and he stated it as such. He didn't say that Toad was a possible choice, he stated that he was selectable. The argument that he could have mentioned Toad's moves is moot, since he didn't mention anyone's moves. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:08, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I think you're misunderstanding my point. He probably did not write the article simultaneously while playing. At least in theory, let's say he wanted to write the sentence saying "yeah, this is your basic Mario sports title" and just started writing generic Mario sports title names. Memory is fickle, and he may have simply misremembered seeing Toad. Now then, I've heard from multiple separate sources that the game has been leaked, and from at least two that there are 21 character slots counting unlockables, no more. If this is true, then Toad's not playable (because there are already 21 playable characters that are currently known anyway.) Now, this could be false, and I freely admit this. However, I've got two sources to your one. One very high-profile source, but one source. I think we should wait until the game is CONFIRMED to be out in Japan, and then we can say whether or not Toad's in. --HeroicJay 06:35, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I correct myself only on one minor detail: The two sources were actually the same person, unless I just can't find the actual second again. I thought they weren't. But, if anything, this helps prove my point about memory being fickle. --HeroicJay 06:46, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
The logic that we should keep Toad out until the game comes out is silly. We shouldn't assume that they may be mistaken in their report; we've never done it before. - A Link to the Past (talk) 07:52, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
This all sounds rather ironic given a different conversation I had with you in the past. That said, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. This is the only piece of evidence we have for Toad being playable, and it's not exactly what I'd call airtight. --HeroicJay 08:33, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure which conversation I had with you. Anyway, the only pieces of evidence you're providing is anecdotal evidence that shows that IGN could possibly be wrong, while we have IGN saying that Toad is a playable character. It is within the realm of possibility that IGN is mistaken, but we use them on many occasions, and in all of those, they could possibly be wrong. - A Link to the Past (talk) 10:13, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Again, I'm not saying Toad is DEFINITELY not in the game, but the IGN evidence is no less anecdotal than mine - it's just a higher-profile anecdote. Most of the time, when IGN has news, it's news backed up in screenshots, videos, other sites, or so forth. Nothing is currently backing up IGN's claim of Toad being playable in this game, and I have evidence that is just as anecdotal - whether you agree with me or not doesn't change this - saying otherwise. --HeroicJay 15:56, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Toad isn't in the game, period. I haven't played much (Only beat Mushroom, Flower, Star, and Rainbow Cup on normal) but there is ABSOLUTELY no sign of Toad. (ROM Release) -- leetdood
And now we're back up to two. --HeroicJay 20:42, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I just checked the in-game character list. (You can choose an icon for you profile from any one of the unlocked characters) There are exactly 21 characters. -- leetdood

Looking at the screen shot under the above heading entitled Famitsu there is an image of two Toads, but it looks like they serve as a type of menu function and not as playable characters. So, yes he is in the game, and no, he will not be playable. Is everyone satisfied? -SaturnYoshi 16:43, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

That's what I've been leaning toward the whole time. I knew Toad was in screenshots; I just couldn't find him in anything resembling a playable position, and as time moved on and more info bubbled forth, it became more and more likely (to me) that he wasn't playable. --HeroicJay 18:18, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

FINALLY the site updated with the third page, and lo and behold, no Toad. So, A Link to the Past, do you have something you'd like to say? You know, if you're even still here? --HeroicJay 18:20, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dragon Quest Stadium

I've seen the Final Fantasy course in the scans and videos (the one with the airship) but, where is Dragon Quest Stadium?

Is this perhaps DQ fan vandalism? Unless someone shows proof in video, audio, picture, or an article from a well trusted site within one week, I'm getting rid of it. - FE411

Update: STAGE DELETED - never existed/rumor

[edit] Cleaned the Gameplay Section Up

The Gameplay section really needed a go through, seeing as it wasn't very professional sounding and had typos all over. But I just wanted to make sure I didn't rephrase anything too much. If any of the information on the gameplay section is messed up now (shouldn't be, but just checking), please change it back (but keep it professional and error-free still!). --Trance 18:36, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Special Shots

This section isn't exactly necessary, but can someone who can read the names put them into English? Half the characters' names are in Japanese characters! --HeroicJay 06:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need a Different Source

For the "unlockable characters proof," I think we should have a better source than cheatcc.com. Definately not official, and it's not the most reliable of sites all the time. Do we even need this link? The official site show all of the characters, do they not? --Trance 19:21, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Not as of yet it doesn't. It's probably safe to remove - all of the FF characters and Bowser are on the official site, and everyone else (except Dixie; don't know why she's not given a cite but she's in the trailer video) has his/her own link anyway. --HeroicJay 18:19, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I see what you mean. The official site still hasn't put that third page up? Good grief. Well, I went ahead and removed the link. I doubt anyone's really going to care that much that it's gone, like you say, with all of the other sources. --Trance 20:20, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Courts

I know there are more courts than listed in the courts section, but the only person adding to it is our friend the vandal. Can someone who ISN'T a vandal add to it? I don't trust any edits by someone willing to put anime characters in this. --HeroicJay 16:39, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I changed the name Gira Gira Desert to the us name, Glare Desert. 69.154.246.239 05:39, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Game guide

What exactly happened to this article. It went from being an informative page about a video game to basically a game guide on how to unlock characters and costumes. I thought Wikipedia was not a game guide. And am I the only one that thinks that the boxes are ugly. -SaturnYoshi 07:36, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Characters?

Is there proof that goomba, paragoomba, koopa troopa, king boo, and shy guy are in this game

No, they aren't in the game. They do have Boo, Paratroopa, and Fly Guy though. 166.70.59.63 02:10, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FF Characters

Would Culex and his four Elemental Crystals from SMRPG be classified as Final Fantasy characters? If so, then Mario Hoops 3-on-3 would be the second game where Mario and Final Fantasy characters have appeared together. 138.192.30.199 23:45, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Culex was Final Fantasy based, but not an actual character from any of the games. -SaturnYoshi 06:52, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mistakes

I have the chrome ball, but haven't completed the final dribbling challenge... It is more likely related to the number of points you have in your profile. Likewise with Glare Desert, I didn't get 800 points... I'm not even sure I won by 700 points and I still got it. I think it is more likely related to the number of points you get in one shot on Jr. Street. Likely 300 or so. --160.36.56.86 15:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Release date delayed

I live in Northern Ireland and when I went to my game shop, they told me that it had been delayed and would be released in February 2007. Why hasn't this been put on the release dates section of the page? Henchman 2000 19:29 4 December 2006

[edit] Title

Why has this game been given different titles? Is there a copyright issue in Europe/Australia for the term "3-on-3"?77.97.230.248 22:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)DanZieBoy

[edit] Square enix and Nintendo

Do we have any reason to believe that it's being developed by Square and Nintendo? That seems like an "exceptional claim" which would require an exceptional source. McKay 16:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Huh?

Dribbling is performed automatically but at a lower rate if the touch screen is not used actively to dribble than it can not throw the ball at other characters.

What does that mean? 67.188.172.165 23:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
