Talk:Mariner program

[edit] Importance
I've rated the Mariner program article as "Mid" importance. The program did generate a number of impressive "firsts", and founded a line of other important interplanetary probe programs. Sdsds 20:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Cost
The Mariner 2 article reports: "Total research, development, launch, and support costs for the Mariner series of spacecraft (Mariners 1 through 10) was approximately $554 million." I'm not sure whether this is true or not, but if it belongs in an article, it would be this one and not the Mariner 2 article. Van der Hoorn (talk) 14:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] READ ME
During the probes journey to Venus, the craft for the first time measures the solar wind, a constant stream of particles flowing outward from the sun. It also measures interplanetary dust, which turns out to be scarce than predicted. In addition, mariner 2 detects high-energy charged particles coming from the sun, including several solar flares, as well as cosmic rays from outside the solar system. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.220.181.55 (talk) 07:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
