[edit] Archive
This talk page has been quiet for some time now (no posts in 2007), and the page was getting unwieldy (as well as deviating from some of the rules for talk pages), so I decided to archive it. Cuffeparade 10:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Categories
Just curious about some of the categories on the article. A few of them seem to be redundant (like articles lacking sources from Dec 2006 and articles lacking sources from Feb 2007), but I don't know the procedure or rules related to removing or consolidating categories. Also the language of some of the 'redundant' categories are slightly different, but seem to me have the same meaning. Anyways, I'm proposing to reduce the number of categories as well as urging fellow editors to either find sources for some of these statements or else editing them out so that the article can get out from under the various negative categories it currently carries. - I removed the broad unverified tag from the Changes at MA section, as the section as a whole now has ample citations. The first paragraph, however, does remain unsourced and requires some citations, so I added a fact tag to the paragraph. I am presently looking through some Wildcatter issues to see if I can find a worthy source referring to the Board of Trustees comments related to this subject, or perhaps a message from the new Admissions Director (I believe it's Dan Babior?). Any assistance would be welcome. Cuffeparade 07:26, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sports
I am wondering about an inconsistency in the dates of boys soccer NCS championships. The article says that they were won in 2000 and 2001, but an article from the Marin IJ sourced on MA's website says that the last NCS win was in 2002. Can anybody shed some light on the dates? And is it perhaps a matter of referencing the school year (ie 2001/2002) versus the actual date that the final was played on (NCS final for 2001/2002 school year would be played on a date in 2001, for instance) Cuffeparade 11:08, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Neutrality?
I propose that the bias tag be removed now that there have been substantial changes to the pages content. I agree that the Changes At MA section should retain the notice warning of a lack of verifiable sources, but I think that the rest of the article can now be considered unbiased and properly sourced. I'll wait a few days before removing the bias tag in case there is any disagreement. Cuffeparade 11:57, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- I have now removed the bias tag, I'd request that anybody who wishes to reinstate it explain their reasoning here on the talk page before taking any action. Cuffeparade 11:06, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Photographs
I added some photos that I took today of the campus. If anybody has input on the photos or their layout, or if there are too many or too few of them, please comment here. Cuffeparade 00:22, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Notable Alumni
So I feel like I'm talking to myself here, but I am going to remove some of the people listed under notable alumni if they cannot be shown to be notable. If you look in the archive there was some discussion of this before that I was involved in and people who did not have WP pages of their own, or other significant notability will be removed. Feel free, of course, to bring up relevant information to establish their significance, but please don't just revert because you want to be included on a WP page. Good work Cuffeparade. Looks nice. What about the Waverly guys for notable alumni? They're relatively successful directors, and the production company they created has worked with several notable bands. Also, they had one of the longest running Channel 102 shows (longest running?). - I went ahead and made some removals, including our persistent inventor of the rubber pencil. I also added Nic Sheff, whose recently published memoir has been getting lots of press (see the LA Times article I linked), and Christopher Ford, as I discovered there is in fact already a WP page for Waverly Films, so that fits the criteria for notability here. [edit] Academics?
I find it interesting, as a recent (2005) alumnus who was somewhat dispirited by the school's increasing athletic bent - but still quite satisfied by the academics - about a certain glaring aspect of this article. There is a prevalent and exhaustively-researched section for "Athletics", yet, although this article is about an academic institution, none for "Academics". Other than the obvious response of "start the section yourself", can anyone explain the woeful lack of academic information in this article?o0O [GUTH3] O0o (talk) 09:15, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'd say that there's definitely worthwhile academic material to cover - most notably LitWeek and the Democracy conferences that the school has begun to hold annually. I guess the problem probably comes from the fact that there is not likely to be as much external material to support the notability of MA's academics as there is for the sports, since local newspapers like the Marin IJ report on the prep sports every day but the academics much less frequently. If you can find some of that material, then by all means post it up there. By the way, if you happen to come across it, I've been looking for an essay that Tony Krakeler (sp? - the former admissions director) wrote in the Wildcatter some years ago that talked a lot about the 'increasing athletic bent' that you talk about that would be a useful document to include in the article. It would also have the happy benefit of removing that last niggling citation required tag from the page! Cuffeparade (talk) 19:50, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
