Coward didn't write Hay Fever for Tempest. He did, though, debut it with her -- it had been written some years earlier. From his autobiography: "Hay Fever... having mouldered sadly in a drawer for months, was suddenly taken out, dusted off and put into rehearsal... This all came about because Alban Limpus and Charles Kenyon wanted a play for Marie Tempest..."
