Talk:Marguerite Perrin

[edit] Early comments
In months following the original airdate of her Trading Spouses episode, pictures of Marguerite in a gay bar captured using cellphone cameras surfaced on the internet. She supposedly said that she "loves gays" and everything, and basically restated the whole "God loves everyone" message. I don't know enough about the specifics to add this to the article, however - I do know that one site featuring the pictures was dlisted.com. Anyone, help??
I agree that the term "Fundamentalist Christian" is not correct. She appears to believe in a form of Christian mysticism and contravene the most fundamental Christian doctrines. She clearly loves herself more than her neighbour for a start. She could well have psychological issues. Its not for anyone to judge whether she is a christian or not but certainly fundamentalist does not apply.

I updated the description of Marguerite from Fundamentalist Christian to something more appropriate. If she were a REAL Christian, she would use the prize money to feed the poor (as Jesus commanded), not to get an operation so she could stuff her greedy cakehole with more pan cakes and not get any fatter than she already is! Greed is one of the ten deadly sins. And, frankly, it can't kill that nasty shrew fast enought. What a crazy, disgusting hypocrite!
When one says "Fundamentalist", it is almost always associated with Protestants rather than Catholics. Fundamentalist Catholic doesn't really apply either, since I can't see this woman clamoring for a downgrading of collegial power and a return to Latin. From her spiritual practices, she appears to be a strange mixture between a Catholic convert and a Pentecostal. This is evidenced by her self-proclamation as a Catholic and by her prayer-life which is more typical of a "real" fundamentalist Pentecostal (viz. being filled with the Holy Spirit, taken control of by God, etc.). Having grown up in the Assemblies of God, it's easy to recognize this brand of Christianity. I was quite surprised to see her call herself a Catholic. The gifting of King James Version Bibles kinda cinched it for me. It's a well-beloved translation... among Protestants, that is. (Even with the original 1611 Apocrypha, it just never caught on with Catholics.) Most modern Catholics use the imprimatured New American Bible. Barring that, a traditionalist might go for the official 17th century English Catholic Bible - the Douay-Rheims Bible.

I would categorize Perrin as a Evangelical Catholic. Since the reforms of Vatican II, Evangelical Catholicism has been growing, especially with converts who wish to retain their evangelical forms of liturgy or with those who wish to see evangelical elements implemented in the current Roman liturgy. On a personal note, having grown up in the Roman Catholic Church (now Eastern Orthodox due to the liturgical timebombs which exist in the Roman Church), her beliefs and rhetoric seem, to me, very much like an Evangelical Catholic.--ICXCNIKA 20:26, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
What would lead you to believe she is a Catholic, or even a mix of Catholicism and another faith? When she storms out of the radio show and asks the cameramen to take her to a Church, she makes some reference to the only Church naerby being a Catholic one, and the way she says it's like the Catholic Church is one step removed from the Church of Satan in her mind. Obvioulsy she is of some Protestant faith. Catholics are hated in many parts of the South by a lot of people. Look at the KKK, they HATE Catholics. It's the whole Protestant vs. Catholics thing I suppose, but the point is that since Catholics are the minority in this nation, there is still a sizeable number of Protestants who dislike Catholics in America, especially Southern Baptists and Fundamentalist Christians. Mrs. Perrin's religion is clearly derived from Protestantism, I thought that was obvious.
Wassup, about the prank call, can someone confirm whether or not it is real? It might be fake...
Listen, lets just generically call her "Christian", since her specific religious affiliation is unknown.
[edit] Shee's NOT A CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!
Is she some kind of internet fad now? I've been seeing her around a lot. Pacific Coast Highway 01:56, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Could you please elaborate on your point?
[edit] "God Warrior" quote
The "I am a God warrior" quote has been changed over to "I am a God's warrior" several times; however, listening to the sound byte repeatedly, it is quite clear that she is saying the former. Rikoshi 10:43, 4 December 2005 (UTC)------------------------ Bring back the Marguerite parodies!!! If she's an internet phenomenon, you need to show these pages to let people know that internet sites have been made in her honor!!!
[edit] Leno
The article makes note of an apparence of the Jay Leno show, but the article fails to mention it eralier in the article. It left me and possibly other readers wondering if she had appeared on Jay Leno, what for, what was said on the appearance, etc.; perhaps, a short description of her popularity and her appearance on other TV shows, and maybe even a link to a video/transcript of that show would also be great.
[edit] Prank call
I was surprised to see a prank phone call cited as a reference in a wikipedia article, even if it isn't an encyclopedic topic. Also, the glowfoto link appears to be mislabled, and to me doesn't seem neccisary. --24.137.107.123 20:56, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Marguerite's spending choices
Does anyone have information on how Marguerite allocated the other family's money?
I believe she gave them all engraved Bibles and some other items.
[edit] Livejournal Reference
I deleted the Livejournal Reference link. It seemed out of place and one-sided linking to someone's livejournal who called her a psycho.
You spell Buddha like so, not as Buddah.
She clearly says "thrown in A pit", not "thrown in the pits."
When I tried to edit it however, I got warned?
[edit] MySpace Link
The MySpace link claims to be her official profile, but a quick glance at some of the details provided makes me think it most likely is not genuine. I checked to see if maybe her website linked to it, but no luck.
I have removed it, yet again. It is self mocking, self insulting, and nonverifiable. This leads me to believe it is not her's. If it is to be on the wiki, it should be under parodies, not links. Maotx 16:14, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Someone asked about it in the forums at margueriteperrin.com in this thread. It does appear to be a parody. --Birdhombre 17:09, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Why does she have a page on wikipedia?
- Because she's fucking hilarious. Mightywayne 20:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Marguerite's religion
She claims to have been baptized Catholic, but she now says she goes to a "non-denominational" church.
"I go to non-denominational church. I was baptized Catholic and since I've been in many different areas, I will really attend any denomination that believes in God." -Marguerite http://www.margueriteperrin.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148
[edit] NPOV
I detest reality TV and haven't heard of this woman until I stumbled across this page, but this doesn't seem to be any more of a balanced portrayal of the woman than the show itself. In particular the half-page of quotations pared from the show needs to be eliminated or cut way down. NTK 05:55, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay I made some changes:
- Took out the "Internet celebrities" category. Clearly unwarranted—she came to the public attention solely through her participation in the TV show (so I added "reality TV star" category) which was heavily promoted in World Series commercials. The "buzz on the blogs" is no more than any other TV phenomenon.
- Eliminated all the quotes. Right now they were half of the article—practically a transcript of the last show. If someone thinks that a few well chosen quotes belong there, go ahead and put a few back in.
- Eliminated the links to parodies. These are not appropriate unless there are particular parodies that are discussed in the article because they are actually significant in some way. The same might be said of some of the commentaries, but I left those in for now. NTK 07:32, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I played a part in that call zomg!
[edit] Official website?
Her "Official" website listed in the links section seems like a parody, but given the source I can't be 100% certain. Anyone know for certain that it's hers?
[edit] "You did come to my mind"
Why, praytell, did Ashley come to Marguerite's mind? 69.246.165.67 01:48, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
It is rather odd that the God Warrior singled Ashley out (when clearly the younger daughter Brooke was more influenced by the other mom, Jeanne). Perhaps Marguerite thought Ashley was more susceptible to "dark-sided things" because Ashley was an unwed teenage mother, which is not the most Christian of values based on her own belief system. Additionally, Ashley did hypnotherapy with Jeanne which I'm sure Marguerite equates with occult brainwashing. Tipsy Firecracker 08:09, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
She says she prayed for her, and thus Margaret, as the religious nut she is, felt her prayer as an apparition of her daughter. That's the explanation. This article has been robbed of all relevant information. She might be a Reality TV-star to Americans, but to the rest of the world she's a frickin' internet icon of southeners! Madskile 15:50, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] God Warrior should not redirect here!
If anything, it should redirect to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind or a disambiguation page. Not some cow on a reality show. 209.248.160.82 15:36, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ashley deceased
I don't edit Wikipedia, so I'll try not to botch this. Marguerite's daughter died on Tuesday in a car accident. Does this bear mentioning in the article? http://www.hammondstar.com/articles/2007/09/26/top_stories/9537.txt
I'm going to hit '~' three times now, because I think I'm supposed to do that. 63.77.141.66 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 17:55, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's worth mentioning. Someone already posted it, but it sounded like a newspaper article, so I rewrote it. I also moved it towards the bottom since the article really isn't about her daughter and it's new news. Facts are bound to come out so it's best if the bare facts are just posted until an investigation, if one is needed, is complete. Pinkadelica 03:37, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks. You Wikipedia contributors are really good. The reworded version looks good. I would never be able to phrase it that well. I would have tried to write it myself, but I am somewhat close to the story so I didn't want to color it. I'll keep my Wikipedia contributions to spelling and grammar for now. 75.163.170.147 —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 04:55, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
