[edit] The name
It's the same city in : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madgaon
(above comment left by user Dawi on 14 March 06)
- That page now redirects to Margão. Regards, Rodney Boyd 18:16, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, I wanted to add to my previous contribution. I wanted to do some research on it first, but never got the time. I doubt that the Portuguese name Margão, with the tilde symbol is much used now; it will be Margao (or perhaps one of the other forms e.g. Madgaon, Margaon in government websites.) So should the Portuguese name continue to be the name used here? Imc 18:34, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Peacock language
Wiki guidelines on peacock language start: "In Wikipedia articles, try to avoid peacock terms which merely promote the subject of the article without imparting real information. Examples include describing people as "important" or "among the greatest" in their field without explaining why."
This article has many such examples. It would be less of a problem, except even information which seems as though it might be precisely stated (and given citations) is glossed. Examples:
"commercial capital of the state" "oldest recorded towns" "famous for huge Portugeuse style mansions" "fastest growing cities" "biggest and most important" "all trains passing stop here" "Gateway to south Goa" "prestigious schools" "famous sons and students" "excel in both academics and in sports"
Wikipedia is an encyclopdia, but not a travel book or an advertising forum. These problems really need to be fixed, and since it sounds like the editors have a good grasp of the area, it seems like it shouldn't be difficult!
