[edit] The little station that could
There is an interesting story to be told about the history, contemporary operations, and strategic importance of Marble Point as a logistics link. Please help build this article.
- History: when did the airstrip end? When did the station become exclusively a helicopter re-fueling station? When did the steel fuel tanks replace the fuel bladders? How long was the original base inhabited?
- Contemporary operations: Number of staff, number and type of buildings. During what time period each year is the station operational? What are the operational activities when an icebreaker delivers fuel? What about the caravans delivering cargo via the ice road? How is the cargo handled? Where is it stored? What about freezing temperatures and storage and transporting scientific equipment? How many helicopter landings per year? How much fuel is pumped on an annual basis.
- Land, sea, and ice: what is the immediate environment like?
- Other topics as needed
- High quality photos needed: helicopter operations, cargo caravan, re-fueling, environment, etc.
