Wikipedians in Brazil may be able to help!

The correct spelling is Maracatu. "Maracatú" is either archaic or, more probably, plain wrong. Also, slavery was abolished in Brazil only in 1888. I don't know, however, how much one could call the Reis do Congo an "institution", in the formal sense of the word. RodC 14:51, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

I have just added a couple of things to this description. I have also removed a few dead links, currently there aren't any links to 'Tarol' or Maracatu Nação Pernambuco' etc on Wikipedia!
However, I intend to create these articles in due course, then re-create the links from this one.

'Institution' - "3. a custom or tradition; something which is well-established • the institution of marriage". From this page [1]
A similar meaning is hinted at in the Wiki entry institution.

It appears to me that the author of this article has relied to heavily on the the stock translations to English from the few sources available; or that or they are, in fact, translating directly from Portuguese.
