[edit] Synopsis

Colonel Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), hero of Planet P, finds himself battling bugs, new and old, on the federation frontier planet known as Roku San. When Roku San falls to the arachnid scourge in a high pitched, action packed battle Colonel Rico finds himself sentenced to death for acts of insubordination. But with the future of the federation and the life of his good friend (Jolene Blalock) lying in the balance Col. Rico is freed from jail and charged with taking the fight to the bugs using the highly advanced weapons system known as Marauder. Using the new technology Rico and his crack squad defeat the arachnids on the distant planet know only as OM-1 and, in turn, help save his fellow soldiers from death at the hands a treasonous element operating within Federation itself.

[edit] Updates

Shooting was scheduled to begin in late March, although delays postponed it until mid April. So far Casper Van Dien is the only confirmed cast member from the original movie that is returning for the sequel. The film will still contain the original bugs although Edward stated that a Scorpion bug would be more deadly being able to make people spew up more scorpion bugs. According to the script there will be two main stars leading the film - Van Dien, taking his previous role as Johnny Rico and the Star Trek:Enterprise star Jolene Blalock who plays Captain Lola Beck.[4]

The film is complete and in post-production. A trailer has been released and can be found on the official website.

[edit] Comments from Casper Van Dien[5]

Via his official forums at his website, Casper Van Dien reported that the first draft of the script was "Awesome." He stated that Ed Neumeier was working on the budget and that they would be meeting with Sony about the project. He stated that in the script the character Johnny Rico has been promoted to a General and that the script contains a “main villain bug”, similar to the use of the Brain Bug in the first film. On July 19, 2006, Van Dien said that the earliest shoot date would be in November 2006 or the beginning of 2007. Through his MySpace account, Van Dien also revealed that South Africa, Morocco, Utah, and Canada are all being considered for shoot locations[6] and the writer of Starship Troopers and Starship Troopers 2, Edward Neumeier, would be directing, saying "It is about time Ed got behind the camera."[7] This would be Neumeier's directorial debut.
