Marzuki graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1996, and received his Master in Architecture degree from Graduate School of Design at Harvard in 2005. Between Williams and Harvard, Marzuki spent several years teaching photography and architecture and coaching soccer at a small progressive high-school in Williamstown called Buxton School. While Marzuki was teaching, his brother, Sufjan Stevens, recorded some of the songs from one of his early albums in the small building on campus. Marzuki was recorded in several of Sufjan's albums.
Sufjan named an indie folk band he was in Marzuki, after his brother.
