[edit] History
The strike-riddled school year of 2003-2004 saw the start of A&T. The principal was Bruce Saari, who would leave at the end of the year. The amount of students was small, near 150. Only two grade levels were present, those being freshmen and sophomore. Classes rotated between A and B days. Most students present during the year report being very happy with the environment, and basically everyone got along. However, many of them would nevertheless leave after their first year.
After just a month-long summer break, the 2004-2005 year saw a new wave of about 90 freshmen, bringing the total amount of students to around 190 at the peak. Also new to the school was the Principal John Lombardi. The number of the previous year's sophomores (now juniors) had drastically reduced, with only 20 or so left. A and B days were no more, bringing the system to the traditional way. The single hallway was crowded nearly every day, sometimes taking up to two minutes to navigate down the entire length. The school received new computers in the second quarter, bringing the total amount of these labs up to three. As there was no senior class, nobody graduated. Once again, some students left at the year's end.
During 2005-2006, the amount of students rose to around 220. The Hallway was more crowded than ever, and the time between classes was only four minutes instead of the usual five. Also added was a literacy period, which was created to keep the year's sophomores from sinking to the low WASL scored put up the previous year. See the "Test scores" section below for info. The now seniors were by far the smallest class, comprising of only 16 students, 14 of whom graduated.
[edit] Mascot
The A&T's mascot is the Penguin Their colors are Blue, Silver and Black. At one point during the 2004-2005 year, a contest was held to possibly change the mascot to a dragon, but most students voted to keep it at the penguin. The original logo was roughly and quickly drawn by former student Darby Janssen, but has been replaced since then.
[edit] Test Scores
In 2006, Marysville Arts and Technology High School scored higher on the WASL than any other school in Snohomish County.[citation needed]
