[edit] Route Description

Winchester Road begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 220 in Cresaptown, as a southbound one-way road. A short distance north of the intersection, at the intersection with Brant Road, the road becomes two-way.[1] Northbound traffic from U.S. Route 220 must use Warrior Drive to access Maryland Route 53. The route continues as a two-lane road northward to LaVale. At LaVale, the route expands to a four-lane divided highway near the entrance to Country Club Mall. It intersects Maryland Route 658 in LaVale, then provides an entrance to eastbound Interstate 68, before ending at U.S. Route 40 Alternate.

[edit] U.S. Route 220 Truck

Maryland Route 53 acts as the main part of U.S. Route 220 Truck, a truck bypass of U.S. Route 220. U.S. Route 220 Truck exits Interstate 68 at Exit 40, uses Vocke Road/Maryland Route 658 to connect to Maryland Route 53, and then follows Route 53 south to its terminus. This route avoids a steep ramp at exit 42 on Interstate 68.
