[edit] Industrial Boulevard

Maryland Route 51 begins in Cumberland as Industrial Boulevard at Interstate 68 exit 43B. From there, it passes southward through south Cumberland. A short distance south of Interstate 68, it intersects Canal Parkway, and then divides into two one-way streets. The intersection between Industrial Boulevard and Virginia Avenue in Cumberland is notorious for its long traffic light cycle.

[edit] Oldtown Road

As the routes leaves Cumberland city limits, it narrows into a rural two-lane highway, and its name changes to Oldtown Road. Oldtown Road parallels the Potomac River through southeastern Allegany County. At Oldtown, there is a low-water toll bridge, connecting Oldtown Road to Green Spring Road (Hampshire County Road 1). Near Paw Paw, West Virginia, Oldtown Road crosses the North Branch Potomac River, entering West Virginia as West Virginia Route 9.
