Mary Sinclair

Mary Sinclair (1922-2000) was an American film and television actress. Born Ella Delores Cook in San Diego, Sinclair started her career as a model but after meeting and later marrying Broadway producer George Abbott in 1944, she became an actress. She was the first actress to sign a long-term ( seven year) contract with a television studio ( CBS) after a chance meeting with executive William Paley. She worked in television and theatre throughout the 1950's appearing in The US Steel Hour and Playhouse One in such productions as Wuthering Heights, The Scarlet Letter and Little Women. Among her leading men were James Daly and Charlton Heston with whom she appeared in the film Arrowhead in 1953. She was also nominated for an Emmy.She also appeared in the Sherlock Holmes television series with Ronald Howard.
She and Abbott married in 1946 and divorced in 1951.
She retired in the 1960's to Europe and became a painter. She eventually returned to the United States where she died in Arizona at the age of 78.
