Mary Jo Nye

Mary Jo Nye (1944–) is an American historian of science. In 2006 she received the prestigious George Sarton Medal of the History of Science Society. In 1999 she had received the Dexter Award for outstanding achievement in the history of chemistry of the American Chemical Society.

After finishing her studies in Chemistry Nye received her PhD (history of science) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1970. In the same year she started to teach at the University of Oklahoma. In 1994 she became professor at Oregon State University, where she is heading the graduate program in the history of science. She has worked as as visiting professor at University of California, at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin and at Harvard University.
