Mary Fleener

Mary Fleener (1951–) is an American underground cartoonist, writer and musician from Los Angeles, California. She is a member of the rock band The Wigbillies. Fleener is know for her unique, cubist-like drawing style—which she termed cubismo—and her autobiographical stories, many of which are featured in her series Slutburger.
Among her influences are ancient Egyptian art and the works of Chester Gould (Dick Tracy), Otto Soglow (The Little King) and Al Capp (Li'l Abner). Robert Crumb and Robert Armstrong encouraged her to create her own comics. Her first published volume was Hoodoo (1988), about Zora Neale Hurston.
