Mary Casey was a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by veteran actress Rowena Wallace.

[edit] Mad Mary

Mary is the mother of Kevin Casey (played by Zen Ledden), who impregnated Pepper Steiger (Nicky Whelan) while they were both in high school. Pepper miscarried at eighteen weeks.

In early 2007, Pepper began to receive gifts from an anonymous stalker, who she believed to be Kevin. In April, she and her father, Allan Steiger (Joe Clements), paid a visit to the seemingly-innocent Mary, to find out if she knew anything. Mary seemed oblivious to her son's whereabouts, but it was soon revealed that Mary was, in fact, Pepper's stalker; Kevin was innocent.

It was revealed that Mary had not let go of the fact that Pepper miscarried, and still blames her for ruining what was possibly her only chance to have a grandchild. Mary is so obsessed, in fact, that she has set up a nursery for the deceased child. She later installed a doggie door and a lock on the door leading to the room.

Unaware that Mary was the one stalking her, Pepper visited Mary at her house. On a later visit, Mary spiked a piece of cake given to Pepper, who was rushed to Erinsborough Hospital when later falling unconscious.

When Pepper finally realised that she was the stalker during a later visit, Mary knocked her unconscious and locked her in the nursery. She then gave Pepper a bottle of spiked water, and tied her to a chair when she lost consciousness for the third time. A delusional Mary then tried to make up for lost time, and even went as far as to say Pepper was still seventeen (as she was when she was pregnant) and show her clothes she had knitted for the unborn child. Despite her pleas to untie her and let her go, a deranged Mary repeatedly told Pepper that she needed to grow up and start acting her age (seventeen in Mary's mind). She allowed Pepper to make a phone call, and she tried to call her mother. However, she was away and tried to drop hints to Janae Hoyland (Eliza Taylor-Cotter) (the person who answered the phone) that she wasn't safe. Unfortunately, Janae barely picked them up.

Mary managed to bail Kevin out of jail with the help of Pepper's credit card, planning to get them all together again as a family, and locked Kevin in the nursery with Pepper. Kevin was shocked to discover that his mother had tied up his ex-girlfriend in a nursery. Pretending to be as mad as Mary when she was around, he planned with Pepper to get her out of the house. Eventually they escaped by setting the room on fire, almost killing themselves in the process. Mary was jailed for her crimes.

It was soon revealed that Mary's new cellmate was Pepper's friend Sky (Stephanie McIntosh), who had been wrongly jailed for murder. Mary befriended Sky, and upon learning that Sky had a baby daughter, Kerry (Claudine Henningsen), Mary began trying to convince Sky to bring Kerry into the prison to live with her. Sky reluctantly agreed, and when she brought Kerry into the cell and momentarily left her with Mary, a riot erupted in the prison, and both Mary and Kerry were missing. A panicked Sky eventually found them, and Mary revealed that she had put Kerry somewhere safe during the riot, before returning Sky's daughter to her. Mary confessed to Sky the truth about her kidnapping Pepper and admitted she needed help. After this incident Mary was transferred to an asylum.
