Mary Butler School

Mary Butler School is an elementary and middle school in the Long Beach Unified School District located in Long Beach, California named after Mary Dell Butler. Butler is a zoned school and magnet school which educates grades K-8. Bulter is usually used as the term for the school and the current principal is Terri Renard. Butler focuses on the arts such as; Dance, Drama, Ceramics, Guitar, Orchestra, Piano, and Chorus. It also has regular core class like language arts, math, science, and history. There are about 900 students in all. 46% are Hispanic or Latino, 30% Asian (mainly Cambodians), 19% African American, 3% Pacific Islanders, 2% Caucasian, and <1% Filipino.

Butler, like all LBUSD elementary, middle, and K-8 schools on the California mainland, requires its students to wear school uniforms [1]. Starting in 2008, the uniform requirements consists of white,blue,or powder blue collared shirts and black,navy,or khaki pants.

Butler's girl soccer team was number 1 in the city in 2006-07 thanks to the team striker, Noemy Mendoza. Butler also place 3rd in Track in the 2006-07 class as well with many number ones with field and distance and the long jump.
