Marvel Select
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marvel Select is a line of action figures based on heroes from the Marvel Universe. The line is designed and produced by ToyBiz, but distributed by Diamond Select Toys; this means that, rather than mass-market stores, Marvel Select figures are available only from specialty retailers.
The figures are sculpted in a strict 7" scale - unlike other toy lines, where figures' size can be unrelated to one another, the Marvel Select figures are carefully designed to create a standard look. Each of the releases comes with a deluxe diorama, and is packaged in a large blister pack designed to appeal to collectors. Large artwork on the left side of the package allows the figures to be displayed like books on a shelf.
The original plan was to release 36 figures, one per month. The figures were originally based mainly on the Ultimate Marvel and Marvel Knights characters, while the mass-market toy lines dealt with the main-universe characters. However, this practice was soon phased out, allowing all the lines to expand.

She-Hulk was chosen in a fan poll run by ToyFare magazine, allowing respondents to pick which of five characters (also including Sandman, Thanos, "DoFP" Wolverine and New X-Men Beast) would be produced as an exclusive for the 2005 summer conventions. Since two of the other candidates have since been released, it seems ToyBiz and DST had plans for all five, and the vote was just to see which would be released as the exclusive.
Additionally, DST offered a "Best Of Marvel Select" assortment, allowing retailers to re-order several popular, sold-out figures: Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Hulk, Green Goblin and Thanos.
Marvel Selct is also offering another "Best Of Marvel Select" assortment. Figures included in this assortment are as follows: Ultimate Venom, Phoenix (plus fiery variant) and Emma Frost (plus Diamond variant).
It has also been hinted that a SHIELD Agent and AIM Agent two-pack, in the same vein as the Skrull/Brood set is on the horizon, though there has been no official confirmation.
