[edit] History

In the early 2000s Mike Forsberg began recording demo material for an unnamed band after the demise of Cybergrind in 2002. For a while he played with death metal band Excarnated and in 2003 joined Christian death metal band Mortification just in time for their 2004 album Braincleaner. Shortly after departing Mortification in 2005, Forsberg teamed up with Michael Carlisle to form a new band, using some of the material he had written and older material they had both written together for the follow-up to Cybergrind's 2000 album Transcend. In 2006 a local search for a suitable vocalist and bass player proved fruitless, so Forsberg took on vocal duties in addition to drums and Carlisle added bass duties as well as guitar during album pre-production. In 2006 the band recorded their debut full-length album at Toyland Studio with renowned sound engineer Adam Calaitzis, over a period of 3 days between 2006 & 2007. Baz Bardoe from Sunsaria appears as guest vocalist on the track "Butchered Planet". In February 2008 Martyrs Shrine signed to Australian label Soundmass, whom re-released the debut album with new artwork on 1st April 2008.
