Martyn Smith has written three sports books. The Premiership in Focus which celebrates 15 years of the Premier League on the BBC, published by Random House in September 2007, Match of the Day at 40 and, with Steve Rider, The 50th Anniversary of Sports Personality of the Year.

He is a freelance TV and Event producer who worked for BBC Sport from 1989 to 2008. He has has worked across a wide range of programmes including Grandstand, Match of the Day, Olympic Games, Onside, Gower's Cricket Monthly, 606, Wright and Bright, Wimbledon, Sports Personality of the Year and Sportsnight. He co-produced Sport Relief in 2002 and 2004 and was Executive Producer of the 2006 and 2008 projects for the BBC.
