Marton Csokas (pronounced Cho-Kash [maːɾton tʃoːkaːʃ]; born June 30, 1966) is a New Zealand actor. He is known internationally for his role as Celeborn in the films The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He has also made numerous appearances in Xena: Warrior Princess as Xena's past love and ally, Borias, and Khrafstar.
Csokas was born in Invercargill, New Zealand. His mother, a nurse, is of Irish and Danish descent, and his Hungarian-born father, also named Márton Csókás, worked as a mechanical engineer.[1][2][3] Csokas is a graduate of Toi Whakaari, The New Zealand Drama School in 1989. Csokas is currently dating French actress Eva Green whom he met during the shooting of Kingdom of Heaven.[4] Csokas holds Hungarian citizenship in addition to being a citizen of his native country.
Csokas's stage credits include plays by Tom Stoppard and William Shakespeare in the 1990s in New Zealand, and in Australia Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (2007) and Peribáñez (2006) with Company B.[5]
