Martinsville is a city in Clark County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,225 at the 2000 census.

Martinsville is located at 39°20′18″N, 87°52′55″W (39.338369, -87.881940).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.4 km²), of which, 2.1 square miles (5.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.44%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,225 people, 522 households, and 358 families residing in the city. The population density was 596.0 people per square mile (229.6/km²). There were 593 housing units at an average density of 288.5/sq mi (111.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.35% White, 0.16% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.08% from other races, and 0.33% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.24% of the population.

There were 522 households out of which 31.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.86.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,961, and the median income for a family was $36,853. Males had a median income of $25,885 versus $19,620 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,706. About 9.1% of families and 12.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.2% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over.
