[edit] Inter-county

White first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in the early 1930s. He won his first Leinster title in 1931 as Kilkenny won their first provincial title for the first time in five years. Kilkenny later played Cork in one of the most famous All-Ireland finals of all-time. The first game ended in a draw while the replay of this game also ended with both teams all square. After a third game between these two great rivals Cork won on a score line of 5-8 to 3-4. White captured a second Leinster title in 1932 as Kilkenny retained their provincial crown. White later lined out in his second championship decider as Kilkenny faced Clare. White proved to be one of heroes of the game as he scored a goal in Kilkenny's 3-3 to 2-3 victory, a victory which gave him his first All-Ireland title. In 1933 White added a third consecutive Leinster medal to his collection. He later lined out in a third successive All-Ireland final. Limerick provided the opposition on that occasion, however, a 1-7 to 0-6 victory gave Kilkenny the championship title and gave White a second All-Ireland medal. Kilkenny lost their provincial crown to Dublin in 1934, however, White won his fourth Leinster title in 1935. The subsequent All-Ireland final saw Kilkenny take on the reigning champions Limerick. Once again White proved to be one of the heroes as he scored a key goal with ten minutes left in the match. Kilkenny won the game by 2-5 to 2-4 and White added a third All-Ireland medal to his collection. In 1936 White won a fifth Leinster title before lining out in his fifth All-Ireland final. Limerick, the defeated finalists of 1935, took on Kilkenny, however, on this occasion it was 'the Cats' who were defeated. In 1937 White won his sixth Leinster title follwoing a defeat of Westmeath in the final. Kilkenny later lined out against Tipperary in an historic All-Ireland final at FitzGerald Stadium in Killarney. The game turned into a rout as 'the Cats' collapsed on the day as Tipp won on a score line of 3-11 to 0-3. White retired from inter-county hurling shortly after this defeat.
