Martin Pakula

Martin Pakula, born 7 January 1969, Melbourne, Victoria. Pakula is an Australian politician, is a member of the Victorian Legislative Council and a parliamentary secretary in the Australian Labor Party government of John Brumby.
Pakula was born in Melbourne in 1969, the son of immigrants from Poland and the USSR. He attended Ormond Primary School and then Haileybury College. Following this, he enrolled in economics and law at Monash University. During his tenure at Monash he became a leading member of Young Labor Network, a caucus of Victorian Young Labor. He completed his Bachelor of Economics in 1989 and an Honours Degree in Law in 1991. In his final year, he won the Industrial Relations Law prize.
Pakula joined the ALP in 1987. He was a Trade Union Official for the National Union of Workers and director of LUCRF Super. In 2005, Pakula challenged Simon Crean in the ALP preselection for the seat of Hotham and failed to be preselected. Instead, Pakula was third spot in the ALP ticket for Western Metropolitan Region and was elected in 2006 Victorian State Election. Since being elected to the Victorian Parliament, he has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Roads and Ports.
Pakula is married and has two children and is a supporter of the Carlton Football Club.
