Martin Meredith is a historian, journalist, and biographer[1] who has written several books on Africa and its modern history.

Meredith first worked as a foreign correspondent in Africa for the London Observer and Sunday Times, then as a research fellow at St Antony's College, Oxford.[2] Living near Oxford, he is now an independent commentator and author.

In his works, African history and the future prospects of the continent are often described as gloomy with hopelessly irreconcilable differences leading to endless warfare and disasters.[3]
