Martin Malave Dilan

Martin Malave Dilan represents District 17 in the New York State Senate, which comprises the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Cypress Hills, City Line, Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, Bushwick, Williamsburg, and Brownsville.
Elected in 2002, after having served for a decade as a member of the New York City Council and 14 years as the Chairman of Community School Board 32, Dilan is currently the Ranking Minority Member of the Elections Committee, and serves on the Banks, Service and Pensions, Education, Finance, Transportation and Judiciary committees. He is also the Assistant Minority Leader of Conference Operations for the Democratic Caucus within the State Senate.
Senator Dilan has previously served as a legislative assistant for the House of Representatives, a Democratic District Leader, and the Democratic State Committeeman from Assembly District 54. Dilan has also been elected three times to serve as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
His son, Erik Martin Dilan is currently a member of the New York City Council.
