Marripudi

Marripudi is a small village in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its distance is 50 kilometres from Ongole, the district headquarters of Prakasam District, and is 10 kilometres away from Podili the nearest Taluk. It is situated off the Ongole-Podili Highway.

Notable features of Marripudi is the hill which is situated about 5 km away from the village, and has a famous deity - "Narasimha swamy", one of the avatars of Vishnu. Legend has it that the deity was installed 500 years ago by a King at the instance of "Narasimhaswamy" in his dream. Every year, during the month of 'magh' according to the Telugu calendar, which comes about February-march time, a festival is held on the hill for more than a weeks time, and thousands of people visit the hill for pilgrimage.

Also, this village has a temple for Lord Dattatreya Swamy. This temple is called 'Datta Mandiram'. Every year during the month of December, a festival called Dattatreya Jayanti is celebrated here with great devotion. At that time people who have moved away from the village long back also come and participate in the festival.

The March event is a great celebration of Village People. All the people will celebrate irrespective of Politics or religion.

Today, this village wears a deserted look with remnants of houses. Only a few families are still living there. Many people who have come from this village became well educated and settled down in nearby cities namely Vijayawada, Guntur, and Hyderabad.
