Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and Country Club

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel was built in the 16th century as a manor house and is now part of the Marriott International group of hotels. The hotel located in heart of Norfolk near the city of Norwich.

Built in 1559, Marriott Sprowston Manor is the quintessential country retreat: a red brick manor house at the end of a long, tree lined drive.

It also boasts one of England's newest golf courses. Opened in 2003 and designed by European Golf Design, the championship course runs through a beautiful landscape, past ancient oak trees and around tricky water hazards. It's a course suitable for golfers of all abilities.

The golf course at Sprowston Manor replaced the hotel's original layout in 2003, incorporating an additional 20 hectares to produce a course measuring 6500 yards, with a par of 71. It reflects a fairly traditional character in sympathy with the nature of its parkland surroundings.

Although not long by modern standards, 70 bunkers put the emphasis on strategy and replacement rather than big hitting and the greens contain enough subtle movement and tricky borrows to demand great accuracy of approach play. With a number of short par 4's and some dramatic par 3's Sprowston Manor is an enjoyable but challenging resort course which contains plenty of variety, both in terms of golf course strategy and aesthetics.
