The Marquette Journal is the student-produced magazine of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Published three times per year, the "Journal" highlights aspects of college student life not covered in the more hard news oriented Marquette Tribune newspaper. A part of Marquette Student Media, production of the Marquette Journal is advised by full-time faculty member Dr. Stephen Byers of the Journalism Department.
The Marquette Journal began as a "literary magazine", published as an outlet for the creative works of Marquette's student body. The magazine was published for years in this format, although in the spring of 2006, the Journal staff began experimenting with the idea of a "student life magazine". This Journal, instead of displaying fragments of student work, published articles that related to Marquette's student body and the Milwaukee community as a whole. The Journal's format as a student life magazine became permanent in Fall of 2007, under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Erin Sheehan.
The official staff positions for the Marquette Journal have changed over the years in order to suit the needs of the organization. However, every year, one Editor-in-Chief is selected by the Diederich College of Communication Student Media Board. As of 2008, the official Journal staff is composed of an Editor-in-Chief, Assistant Editor, Features Editor, Chief Copy Editor, Chief Designer, and Promotions Director.
