Marlon Klein

Marlon Klein (born December 13, 1957 in Herford, Germany) is working since many years as a german musician and producer in the field of World Music and Fusion.
He is a co-founder of the groundbreaking german group Dissidenten who helped to establish the term World Music already in the early eighties. Concerts and recordings with artists from various cultures have taken him around the world several times.
Klein also is part of the label Exil Musik.

[edit] Biography and career
His musical career started with studies of classical percussion at Germany’s famous Detmold Music School. In the late 70s he became one of the founders of the legendary Real Ax Band, part of the first German/Austrian/Swiss independent music network Schneeball. Real Ax Band’s song “Samba Mortale” became a success not only in Europe but a Brasilian club hit as well. In 1982 together with Uve Müllrich and Friedo Josch Klein became co-founder of the Dissidenten. Together with the American Saxplayer Charlie Mariano and the South Indian Karnataka College of Percussion they gained worldwide attention. Following this successful project Klein and Dissidenten focussed on North Africa. In collaboration with the Moroccan superstars Lem Chaheb. This project and the album Sahara Elektrik with the hit song Fata Morgana finally made them famous worldwide and helped to establish the term World Music internationally.
Besides Dissidenten Klein collaborated as producer/musician for Pili Pili, Angelique Kidjo, Gary Wright, George Harrison, Sven Väth, Yello, Manickam Yogeswaran and Charlie Mariano, to name a few.
At present Klein is working with Spain’s Tomas San Miguel and his group Txalaparta, performing with the Australian-Finnish singer/songwriter Esther Bertram as Bertram-Klein Duo, with Manickam Yogeswaran and guitarplayer Jens Fischer in the Euro-Indian trio Peace4Paradise. Together with Dissidenten Klein is producing the new album The Tangier Sessions under partizipation of Morocco’s musical heroes Jil Jilala which is likely to become another milestone in the amazing in the history of Dissidenten and Marlon Klein.
At present Marlon Klein is living in Ibiza and Berlin.
