Marlboro Memorial Middle School (abbreviated MMMS) is a middle school located at 79 Nolan Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, New Jersey, as part of the Marlboro Public Schools, and educates students from sixth grade to eighth grade, and has an approximate student population of 1,010 students.

MMMS opened on March 17, 2003, missing its target date by several months. It was intended to open on September 3, 2002, the first day of school for the Marlboro K-12 School District, but due to construction delays, the opening was postponed, creating great confusion for the seventh and eighth graders that originally occupied it.

MMMS was dedicated on April 3, 2003. Speakers included Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Abbott, Business Administrator Cindy Barr-Rague, Marlboro Board of Education President Cynthia Green, Principal Joanmarie Penney, and New Jersey Assistant Commissioner of Education Dr. J. Michael Rush. Student leaders escorted parent and community tours throughout the school, and everyone got acquainted with the huge new building.

In June of 2003, the Student Council buried a time capsule in the MMMS main courtyard with memorabilia from the dedication and the first months of school.

In September 2003, sixth graders were welcomed from the district’s five elementary schools into both middle schools, completing the transition to schools that now house grades six through eight.

The school’s mascot, the monarch lion, was chosen by the students to symbolize peace and strength. The main school color is maroon, but the colors gold and silver are also added in some contexts. The school newspaper is appropriately called The Royal Register and is published four times throughout the year.[1]

[edit] Performing Arts

The arts and music are especially important at MMMS. The school featured 4 advanced musical groups: The Royalaires Show Choir and Royal Ringers Handbell Choir, under the direction of [1] Mr. Ryan Guth, Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Matt Goley, and Chamber (Festival) Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Katie Gussman. Each group travels to compete at various music festivals during the school year.

The Marlboro Memorial Middle School Show Choir, Jazz Band and Festival Orchestra participated in the Music In The Parks Festival in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on May 4 – 5, 2007. The Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Matt Goley, received a rating of “Superior” and the 2nd Place Award; the Royalaires Show Choir under the direction of Mr. Ryan Guth, received a rating of “Superior”; 1st Place Award, “Best Choir Overall” and “Best Soloist in the Festival” and the Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Katie Gussman, received a rating of “Good” and a 2nd place award.

Update: MMMS show choir has received excellent while the jazz band received a good at the most recent competition in Plymouth

Each year, two dramatic productions, including one musical are performed. In 2007, Aladdin Jr. was performed under the direction of Ms. Randi Schwartz and Mr. Ryan Guth. In 2008, MMMS Drama Club performed The Emperor's New Clothes and School House Rock Live Jr..

The MMMS student council is nationally recognized by the New Jersey Association of Student Councils, with one of their own students as the NJASC's national middle school representative.[citation needed] Towards the end of each school year, for the upcoming school year, students run for the following positions:
