Marla faith
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Marla faith is the traditional religion of the Mari people of the republic of Mari El, Russia. The religion encompasses Christianity with elements of traditional Totemism and Shamanism. The faith has been persecuted by Russian authorities as part of a wider campaign to Russify Mari culture.[when?] Vitaly Tanakov, an adherent of the faith, was charged with inciting religious, national, social and linguistic hatred after publishing the book The Priest Speaks.
