Marko Popović (born 1982)

Marko Popović (born June 12, 1982) is a Croatian professional basketball player. He is 185 cm tall and plays at the position of guard. His current club is BC Žalgiris.

Popović was born in Zadar, the son of Petar Popović, a successful basketball player. Marko started his career in KK Zadar in 1998. In 2000 he had a brief stay at the NCAA Division II team Southern Idaho, before he moved back to Croatia and Zadar. In 2002/03 season he was named the Goodyear League's MVP, and KK Zadar won the league that year.

In 2003, he moved Pamesa Valencia of Spain for the season, where he stayed for one season until moving back to Croatia again, this time for Cibona Zagreb, with which he won the Croatian basketball championship 2003/04.

In 2005, Popović was signed to the Turkish side Efes Pilsen S.K., and the next year he moved to BC Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania. His team won the 2006-07 Lithuanian Championship.

Marko Popović played for the Croatian junior national basketball teams, where he won the MVP award at the European Under-18 Championship in 1999, and the team won the silver medal at the 2000 European Under-18 Championship. In 2002, he led the European Under-20 Championship in scoring and assists.

He joined the Croatian national basketball team in 2002, and has played at the Eurobasket 2003, Eurobasket 2005 and Eurobasket 2007.
