Marker of the Swans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marker of the Swans, or Swan Marker, is a recently created office in the Royal Household of the Sovereign of the United Kingdom, created in 1993 when the ancient post of Keeper of the Kings Swans (which dated from the 13th century) was replaced by two new posts; the other being the Warden of the Swans.

The Marker of the Swans still participates in the annual activity of Swan Upping on the River Thames, but ironically the swans caught by him are not actually marked, unlike those caught by the two involved Livery Companies.

The first office-holder is David Barber, appointed 1993.
