Mark Twight

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Born in 1962, Mark Francis Twight rose to prominence in the world Alpine mountaineering community in the late '80s and early '90s with a well-documented series of difficult, dangerous alpine climbs in various ranges around the world, perhaps most notably in the Mont Blanc massif outside of Chamonix, France. Twight now lives in the Salt Lake City area.

In addition to bold and cutting-edge Alpine climbs, Twight has become notorious within the climbing community for his aggressive writing documenting his various exploits, and his no-nonsense attitude towards those he feels are not honest about their commitment to climbing, and their lives in general. Twight is the president of Grivel North America, an ice climbing equipment company[1].

Mark Twight is also the founder of Gym Jones, where he trains athletes and professionals. The name "Gym Jones" may be a reference to People's Temple leader Jim Jones. According to the Gym Jones website, Mark Twight's favorite drink is Flavor Aid [2], the same product that Jones' followers mixed with cyanide in one of the largest murder-suicides in recent history in 1978. Recently, the cast of 300 trained in Gym Jones to attain the physiques of Spartan warriors.
