Mark Twain Village is a United States Army installation located in the Südstadt district of Heidelberg, Germany. It is one of two American bases in the United States Army Garrison Heidelberg that house American soldiers and their families (the other being Patrick Henry Village). MTV is located adjacent to Campbell Barracks, which serves as the home to both the Headquarters, United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and the Headquarters for NATO's Allied Land Forces Central Europe (LANDCENT).
Located at the base is an Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) shoppette, a library, a church, Mark Twain Elementary School, and Heidelberg High School, which both serve American children living in the surrounding area. The high school serves students from MTV, its surrounding areas, and PHV, as there's no high school on PHV, since it would cost too much to build a new one, and the relatively small population of Heidelberg High (approximately eight hundred, one of the largest DoDDS schools in Germany).
Part of MTV's housing area was shut down and given back to the German economy starting from August 4, 2006 to August 9, 2006. In the long run, this saved $1,800,000. The area was farther away from the other sections, so it made sense to shut that area down. It is currently being renovated by the Germans with some buildings already accommodating civilians.
Another part of MTV's housing area is now being used by NATO personnel.
