Mark Steenhuis (b. December 3, 1980 in Niagara Falls, Ontario) is a lacrosse player for the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). His last name is pronounced "STAIN-house"[citation needed].
Steenhuis made his NLL debut in 2002 with the Columbus Landsharks before being traded to the Bandits for goalie Ken Montour. Once in Buffalo, Steenhuis quickly became a fan favourite, thanks not only to his energetic style of play, goal-scoring ability, and blazing speed, but also for his afro hair and bright orange shoes.
Unlike most NLL players, Steenhuis did not grow up playing lacrosse. In fact, he never played the game until the age of 18.[1]
Steenhuis was named MVP of both the 2004 and 2007 National Lacrosse League All-Star Games, becoming the first player in NLL history to be named MVP of two All-Star Games, scoring six times in each outing.[2] In 2008, Steenhuis was named the NLL Transition Player of the Year.[3] and the NLL Championship Game MVP.
His goal song at HSBC Arena is "Brick House" by The Commodores. Also during his goal announcements, the Arena public address announcer asks, "Who's House?!" The fans in attendance reply by shouting, "Steenhuis!"
