Mark Raper

Mark Raper SJ AM is current Provincial superior of the Society of Jesus[1] in Oceania.
His work has entailed human rights, refugee[2] and social justice advocacy.
From 1982 he was the first Director for the Asia-Pacific arm of the Jesuit Refugee Service.
In 2001 he held a Visiting Chair in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington DC and was named a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his service to refugees.
After the 2002 Bali bombing, Raper spoke in Eureka Street Magazine of the need for the response to "combine effective and cooperative policing, strong and just legal systems, and networks of cooperation between people of diverse cultures"[3].
He received the 2004 Australian Council For International Development Human Rights Award for his work in East Timor, Indonesia, Bosnia, Burma and Thailand[4].
He attended St Ignatius' College, Riverview.
