Dr. Mark MacClaine, MD was a fictional character in the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, portrayed by actor Michael Dietz from 2002 to 2005.

[edit] Character

Mark is the product of an illicit affair between Margo Lynley (Lauren Koslow) and Clarke Garrison (Daniel McVicar), while Clarke was still married to Kristen Forrester (then played by Teri Ann Linn). Margo blackmailed Clarke not to tell his wife. After Kristen discovered the truth, she and Clarke divorced. Margo then gave birth to Mark (named from a combination of Margo and Clarke's names). When Mark was a toddler, Margo took him and left town.

In 2002, when Bridget Forrester (then played by Jennifer Finnigan) went to medical school, she was assigned a mentor to help her with her studies - ER doctor Mark MacLaine. Mark had taken a job in Los Angeles to meet his biological father, Clarke. Mark met with Clarke and they decided to work on a relationship. Mark also began to develop feelings for his student, Bridget. He quit being her mentor so he could date her. He was shocked to discover that she was also dating his half-brother, C.J. (Mick Cain). Both men refused to give up Bridget, and they fought for her affections. However, neither won, as Bridget began to develop feelings for Ridge (Ronn Moss), whom she had previously thought was her brother.

The character of Mark was backburnered for the next two years, appearing whenever a doctor was needed. In 2005, Mark helped Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) fake a heart attack so that her son Ridge would grant her "dying wish" and marry Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo) instead of Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang). When the lie was exposed, Mark's medical career was destroyed and he left town.
