Marcus Lyle Prophet (born December 24, 1918) was an American born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He died February 26, 1973 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He founded The Summit Lighthouse organisation, which later became the Church Universal and Triumphant, on August 7, 1957 in Washington D.C..

With his first wife Phyllis he had five children: Becky, Beth, Marcia, Dan, and Allyson. In 1961, he met and married Elizabeth Clare Wulf, who became Elizabeth Clare Prophet. They had four children.

Upon the death of Mark Prophet, his widow Elizabeth changed the name of the organization to Church Universal and Triumphant, and built the new church into a worldwide movement which continues to the present day.
